Seventh Generation Institute is a nonprofit 501(c)3 conservation organization, based in
Santa Fe, New Mexico,  and dedicated to promoting sustainable resource use, biodiversity
conservation, ecosystem restoration, and ensuring an optimistic future for the human
communities that depend on the natural world.

Our guiding philosophy is that effective conservation and sustainable use will only occur
with both credible applied science and strong community participation.  Applied science
enables us evaluate the effectiveness of our conservation efforts and continuously improve
them.   It also provides a strong foundation to make informed decisions about stewarding
natural resources. We utilize applied science in the form of adaptive management wherever
appropriate.

Programs and
Projects
The emphasis on working together with the
community is the second key  characteristic
of Seventh Generation Institute.  We do not
lobby, litigate, protest, or take
confrontational positions on issues.
Instead, we partner with government
agencies at all levels, user groups, tribes,
community organizations and private
landowners to find win-win alternatives and
improve the stewardship of natural
resources.

We carry out our own
programs and
projects  and we also act as a nonprofit
contractor to communities, agencies, and
other organizations.
We are a small and lean organization with the flexibility to innovate and to act quickly.
Most of our projects are carried out in the Southwest of the U.S., Latin America and the
Caribbean.
